Siletz Bay
Conservng a Scenic Estuary on the Oregon Coast
Siletz Bay contains some of the most scenic estuarine habitat along the Oregon coast. Located 128 miles south of the mouth of the Columbia River, the bay is an important breeding ground for fish, provides nursery grounds for coho and chinook salmon, steelhead and cutthroat trout, and is a stopover for birds on the Pacific Flyway.
The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service considers these lands important to many endangered bird populations including bald eagles, peregrine falcons, brown pelicans and Canada geese. The sandy Siletz Spit is nesting habitat for the endangered western snowy plover. ALC purchased private lands within the Siletz Bay National Wildlife Refuge to be managed by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.
