About ALC

Who We Are
The American Land Conservancy (ALC) is a national nonprofit land conservation organization that protects land and water resources for the benefit of people and wildlife. We conserve critical habitat for plants and animals, protect threatened lands and rivers, preserve working farms and ranches, and create new outdoor recreation areas that allow people to enjoy and explore the natural world.
- We have conserved more than 274,000 acres nationwide, including 86,000 acres of California coastline, 92,000 acres in Nevada and along the Eastern Sierra, 8,400 acres on Afognak Island in Alaska, nearly 25,000 acres along the middle Mississippi River, 37,000 acres in California’s Central Valley, and other land and water resources around the country.
- Our work has enabled the creation or expansion of state parks, national wildlife refuges, state and national forests, wetlands, and grasslands, and has protected historic working ranchlands.
- We have helped children and adults reconnect with nature by providing many new opportunities for public outdoor recreation, including community green spaces, public fishing access points, hunting, boating, and wildlife viewing areas, and new access to wild and rugged hiking trails.
