America’s Outdoor Playgrounds

ALC continues its legacy of increasing public opportunities for fishing, hunting, hiking, biking, boating, nature observation, mountain climbing and camping across the American West. Within California and along the Mississippi River, ALC projects especially benefit underserved segments of the population lacking access to outdoor recreation.

Grizzly Bear Ecosystems

ALC aims to protect and restore healthy grizzly bear populations through the conservation of ecosystems and wildlife corridors upon which they depend. Working in Alaska and the Northern Rockies, ALC uses land acquisition and conservation easements to maintain the large undeveloped expanses of wilderness and critical habitat linkages imperative to grizzly survival.

Working Landscapes of the West

As population growth, development and generational succession lead to the increased conversion of ranches into smaller land parcels, home sites are proliferating while natural habitat is increasingly fragmented. ALC helps landowners retain their land and maintain our unique agricultural heritage by recognizing the vital role that private lands play in the conservation of our nation’s resources and heritage.

North America’s Flyways and Wetlands

North America’s migratory flyways are reinforced by landscapes where birds and waterfowl can find water, food and cover along their journey – typically wetlands habitat. ALC works to enhance the Pacific, Central and Mississippi flyways through conservation and restoration of vital wetland areas and riparian corridors.

Private In-holdings

In-holdings are privately-owned lands located inside the boundary of a national or state park, forest, wildlife refuge or similar publicly-protected area. ALC holds the expertise to respond quickly when important in-holdings come on the market. This initiative strategically targets private in-holdings where extraordinary wildlife habitat, wilderness and recreational opportunities are at risk.
