Bodie State Historic Park
A Ghost Town Thrives Amid Protected Lands
Bodie is the largest and best-preserved ghost town in the West. A National Historic Landmark and a State Historic Park, Bodie attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors annually.
The ghost town is situated in the Bodie Bowl, a 6,000-acre Area of Critical Environmental Concern managed by the Bureau of Land Management that supports diverse plants and animals, including 14 candidates for protection as endangered species.
Potential mining led Congress to protect these lands. Federal and state agencies asked ALC to buy the privately held mineral rights until public funds were approved to retire the threat of mining once and for all.
The area provides forage for livestock and diverse recreation including camping, mountain biking, snowmobiling, hunting, fishing and cross-country skiing.

With your help, American Land Conservancy can continue to conserve the very best of our ecological, scenic, recreational, cultural and agricultural resources.
