San Bernadino National Forest

Expanding Parkland for Greater Los Angeles

Recreational land within a short drive of Los Angeles is in short supply. With spectacular beauty and proximity to metropolitan Los Angeles, the San Bernardino National Forest is one of the most used national forests in the country.

ALC acquired former ranchlands within the national forest for hikers, campers and anglers, including Garner Ranch, a scenic wilderness in the San Jacinto Mountains on the eastern edge of the Los Angeles Basin.

Spotted owls are among the rare birds and animals living in the ranch’s conifer forests and spring-fed meadows. Upper Deep Creek is part of the wildlife corridor connecting the Los Angeles Basin and Mojave Desert, and supports one of the few wild trout streams left in southern California.
