Avila oak

Greetings, long-time and new supporters of Wild Cherry Canyon! For more information about this critical conservation project, click here.

cpkWe at American Land Conservancy would like to say THANKS for your continued to support of the project. Many of you ate recently at California Pizza Kitchen (CPK), our second fund raising adventure at that great local restaurant. CPK's total contribution to date has exceeded $800! WOW!

We would also like to thank our recent generous donors - including Don and Liz Maruska, Donna Peterson, and Marianne Moss. SUPER! Thank you!!!!! Also, we have had some fabulous mapping of Wild Cherry Canyon completed by Kelli Schoner - valued at over $3000, she donated it all to the project. Thanks Kelli!

On another positive note, things are looking good on the state bond front. Word on the street is that the bond freeze -- which has temporarily suspended some of the project funds -- may be lifting late fall.Another major project break-through has recently occurred, about which we will update you shortly. Although significant obstacles still lie ahead, things have never been more promising for the protection of Wild Cherry Canyon forever!

Stay tuned for more information. In the meantime, please keep those donations coming, and be a part of true conservation history. (You can donate online at www.alcnet.org or send a check payable to:

Happy autumn; again, thank you. Kara

Hello, supporters of Wild Cherry Canyon!

Just a friendly reminder about our California Pizza Kitchen (SLO) fundraiser this week --specifically Wednesday, September 9th. If you take out or dine-in at the restaurant any time that day, then TWENTY PERCENT (20%) [note corrected amount!] of your proceeds will go directly towards the purchase of Wild Cherry Canyon and help ensure its protection and recreational access in perpetuity.

HERE'S THE CRITICAL PART: You MUST bring in the flyer, or you hard-earned money will only buy great food. To be a part of conservation history, you must bring the flyer and present it to your server. And, please, spread the word. How about printing out several copies, and providing the flyers to friends, family, and co-workers?

Thanks to all of you for your continued support, and to Steve McGrath for his recent $100 donation. How about matching Steve's generosity? It's easy: donate electronically at www.alcnet.org or mail a check payable to:

American Land Conservancy - WCC
250 Montgomery Street
Suite 210, San Francisco, CA 94104

All donations are tax deductible.

Also, if you pledged financial support contingent on the Board of Supervisor's approval of funding, please (if you would) provide that donation now -- we still have a handful of outstanding pledges. (For those of you who didn't hear about it, the Supervisors voted unanimously in favor of $500K funding; give 'em a thanks next time you see your Supervisor.)

See you Wednesday at CPK SLO; cheers,
Kara

Greetings, long-time and new supporters of Wild Cherry Canyon!

We hope this email finds you all well, particularly in light of our recent victory before the San Luis Obispo Board of Supervisors. Many of you have asked, What is next? How can I help?

The answer: Eat your heart out, once again, at California Pizza Kitchen in San Luis Obispo on Wednesday, September 9 (all day).

If you show up at the restaurant on Wednesday, September 9, and IF YOU BRING ALONG THE EMAILED FLYER, then ten percent of your proceeds will help raise those last funds necessary to successfully acquire Wild Cherry Canyon and conserve it forever for people and wildlife.

Remember, you MUST bring the flyer, or your purchase will NOT serve conservation. (But you will still get a great meal,I assure you.)

Please pass along this good news!

We would like to thank our most recent donors, who have become increasingly generous; we are sincerely grateful. A special and sincere thank you to Andrew Walsh and Roxanne Mancini of VIDA FRESH for their $1000 donation; to Vic Oelschlaegel for his $1000 donation; to Christine and John Cutter, for their $500 donation in memory of David Alan Cook; to David and Linda Chipping for their $250 donation; to Bruce Hilton for his $100 donation; and to Joanne Hilker for her $100 donation. THANK YOU!!

Total private donations FROM YOU(!) to Wild Cherry Canyon have now reached over $186,000! WOW! That brings us ever closer to our fundraising goal.

If all pledges and expected grant and bond funds come in, our funding gap is just $1,432,512. Go team!

Consider matching these generous donors. It is easy. Simply visit the Wild Cherry Canyon page. (How about right now?!) Or, send a check payable to:

American Land Conservancy - Wild Cherry Canyon
250 Montgomery Street | Suite 210 | San Francisco, CA 94104
(all contributions are fully tax deductible)

Just think: if we can close this deal, it means 4000 new acres of State Park and 20 new miles of Cal. Coastal Trail! (It also means you'll stop getting my annoying messages.)

THANKS EVERYONE!
Kara

Wild Cherry Canyon: VICTORY!!! Avila wildflower

WHAT A DAY! We are proud to announce that, thanks to all of YOUR efforts, today was a spectacular success! The San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors - in a move of vision and courage - voted 5-0 in FAVOR of providing $500,000 in funding towards the conservation of Wild Cherry Canyon.

Three enthusiastic cheers for Chairman Bruce Gibson, Supervisor Katcho Achadjian, Supervisor Adam Hill, Supervisor Frank Mecham, and Supervisor Jim Patterson. Thank you Supervisors!!!

And a special thanks to all of you who submitted those compelling letters of support. A better case has never been made for conservation.

And another thanks to the SLO County Parks Commissioners, for their leadership in supporting Wild Cherry Canyon and bringing it to the Board of Supervisors.

We also wish to thank Pete Jenny, who is soon to retire as Director for San Luis Obispo County Parks. Pete made perhaps his last formal appearance as Parks Director, supporting this project, and has been a enthusiastic and strategic advocate of Wild Cherry Canyon since the beginning. Pete leaves a tremendous legacy of parks and recreation throughout our community. We wish Curtis Black, the new director, the best of luck in filling Pete's large shoes.

We also wish to thank all the financial supporters who have so generously given, even during this tough recession. To date, individual donations to this project from our community have reached $198,149! This number includes several recent donations, including $1000 from Mary Ann Vasconcellos (her second, generous gift), $500 from Karen Rogers in memory of Charlotte and Gary Lee, $200 from Pamela Krahl, and $100 each from Linda Clarke and Jim Patterson. Bruce Gibson has also pledged financial support.

So, here's where things stand: If all expected grants and bond funding comes in, we are just $1,435,461.81 away from our $24 million goal. SPREAD THE WORD!!!

Consider matching the generosity of your community members and giving, in honor of (1) our Supervisors and Parks Commissioners who supported us, (2)our friends who wrote the letters, (3) our colleagues who bravely spoke up,(4) the donors who broke their piggy banks, and (5) the land that will bring us joy, comfort, and inspiration.

You can donate electronically through www.alcnet.org or by sending a check payable to ALC.

Finally, a sincere thank you to those of you who were able to show up today for the hearing and provide your persuasive voices of support:

  • Steve McGraw
  • Nick Franco
  • Marshall Ochylski
  • Dorothy Jennings

...and thanks to the many others who showed up today in support without speaking. I think you all must have frightened the opposition, as there were NO words spoken against the project. WOW!

From American Land Conservancy, our heartfelt thanks, again and again
Kara
